The Queer Lens Workshop

A one-day workshop for wom*n and gnc directors
Level: Beginner, Intermediate
Class size: Limited to 12

This workshop is for emerging directors who want to focus on the creative potential and emotional impact of lens choice.  Lens choice supports performance, shapes point-of-view, and builds the emotional world of the story.  This workshop is designed to demystify lens selection, including impact on perspective, focus, and exposure, to facilitate confident communication with cinematographers and camera operators, and free the creative imagination through craft. Using hands-on and DIY exercises, supported by screening, lecture and demonstration, we will explore the fundamentals of lens choice including focal length, camera distance, and depth-of-field, always grounded in the context of making meaningful choices that move the story. This workshop is designed for emerging wom*n and gender non-conforming directors who want to learn in a come-as-you-are and be-yourself environment.

*Above all, this workshop will be a practice-based exploration of the queer lens in a collaborative and supportive environment that we will build together.
